The 2048 game is a sliding-number puzzle you can finish (or fail) in a few minutes. Ours runs entirely on this page so you can keep playing without hopping through clone sites.
About 2048
2048 is a sliding number puzzle: the board is a 4×4 grid. Each move slides every tile as far as it can go. Matching numbers merge into the next power of two — 2+2 becomes 4, 4+4 becomes 8, and so on. A new 2 or 4 appears after every move. The original 2048 was released as open-source; this page is our own browser build so you can play instantly while we keep you on Twelve Games instead of bouncing to a random clone farm.
How to play 2048
- Use arrow keys, WASD, or swipe to slide all tiles in one direction.
- When two tiles with the same number collide, they merge into one tile with double the value.
- A new 2 or 4 spawns in a random empty cell after each move.
- Reach the 2048 tile to win. Keep going for a high score after that.
Tips
- Keep your highest tile in a corner and build toward it.
- Avoid random swipes that break a sorted edge.
- Don’t chase every merge — empty space is as valuable as a big tile.
